I'm doing and introductory class for beginners of a simple well loved wire wrapping project, know to many as the TREE OF LIFE PENDENT. Yep, I'm addicted to making beaded hoop earrings. These lovely hoops are just the latest of my new found obsession. I can't see why, accept that they take no time at all, and besides, everything else I do has a tendency to be structured and complicated, to the point that I sometimes burn myself out.

Making hoops are like not thinking, but just allowing the flow to just happen. Colors, textures and form just goes together, without even trying to figure out what should be next.

I guess for me, it's my go to fix to allow my creativity to just be free. In Pk's world sometimes that's not possible, to many projects, to much structure, and just to many deadlines. But this little infatuation is what keeps me sane...LOL...I know, I know.... I just can't seem to stop myself...

But...there are worst addictions....I guess I'll keep mine.

Of all the colors in the rainbow, my most favorite is GREEN, well at list for the moment that is. I'm the kind of woman who pretty much changes her mind every few minutes when it comes to playing with colors. I was the child that had to have the 101 Crayola Colors....LOL...if they had that much that is. I just can't seem to get enough of bold bright colors, hues and having them all in my pencil box, I just had to have them. Just like that sweet smelling Hello Kitty erasers, LOL...those are the best kind.I know I'll never grow out of that obsession, it's just what this color maniac artist must have. I know I could just do without all the extras, but why bother. Just like browsing Etsy's many amazing handmade shops. Change is good, I hear that being said all the time. And some times, it seems so over used. BUT, in most cases, it is very necessary to survive and most of all to succeed. It's been also said that, "Life imitates art, or art imitates life." In my opinion, it really depends on your perception. For the last 20 years necessity has been the force that's driven my work, not the joy to create. We can all agree, in our early stages of our lives, where adventures in starting a family, raising our children, and just the little unexpected adventures that caused the detours that has taken us off the beaten path, in not always the good ways cultivated those changes, chiseled and molded us into the who we are today. That being the present of the MOMENT, I've learned that change is the only guarantee in life. With out those twists and turns, I would never have met the people that's become my closes frenz. I would never know what I was capable of doing, but most of all, I would never realize that I'm more than all I thought I ever was. So here I go again, that wise mentor called change, has guided me towards a new road, to a new adventure, and most of all to a new ME.BlessingsPK

Phases of Me, in Metal

Anyone who knows me would wonder, "What's the woman going to do next?" I often wonder the same exact thing, but that too passes, and I'm off to the next creative adventure. In most cases, it never takes me long to jump into my next phase of creations, Like my gal pal Patricia, had just commented on my latest facebook post, "The many faces of PK." She had no idea how on the money she was when she said that. Let me just warn you, by saying, I'm a Gemini, and that's the main poster child for what most astrolgers would tag as the ADHD child of the Zodiac. LOL...the positve flip side to that is I'm really super creative, great at multitasking and a very quick study. {But to everyone else that would mean trying to keep up, over energized and just high maintance. } {not to mention scattered, flakey or all over the place.} LOL...I alway remind my gal pals, that they chose me as their friend. that being said, they know who to call when they need art stuff to get done. {The cure & the curse} but that's a whole other story.What you see is my latest ephiney moment, while sitting at my bench staring into a box of tarnished scraps of wire.

I've been on a crative binge of making LOVE KNOT & SPIRAL copper wire wrapped rings for my NEW PIKO COLLECTION, as well as matching earrings and heavy metal cuff bracelets, which by the way I'm proud to say has been turning out to be one of my best sellers on Etsy.com. I was just taking a little break to let the oxidation process do it's job, and having one of those out of space Gemini moments, I found some strips of tarnishded aluminum wire.

Feeling kind of out of my element, never used aluminum before, not knowing what the effects would be, I figure like everything else that comes my way, my MUSE would take the drivers seat and make a go of it. And to my amazement, she came through, {LOL she's saying, " LIKE YEA!}, any who, here's the out come of my very first incounter with RE~CYCLED ALUMINUM WIRE. Yep, it's a ring, and since it was still in my comfort zone, it gave me the confidance I needed to take that unknown leap into metal mania. As you can see I didn't stop there, I made a matching pair of African Tribal dangle earrings, with a more distressed look, and added vintage pearls that my gypsy gal pal Desiree gave me and tribal beads to set them off. It's Never Enough, what kind of title is that? Well, my husband always asks me, "Why are you so hard on yourself? It's already perfect. Let it go." You'd think that man would know me by now, after almost 10 years of being together. But NOPE! He still has to ask. I know you're probably wondering what does that have to do with this picture.

It has everything to do with everything I do. It's never enough to just make it pretty, or shiny, wrap it up, and put in a box, ship it out and customer is happy. No way! Like my over controlling neat freak persona, it has to be perfect. Sorry, if all you Zen masters gurus out there thinks I should get over myself. But it's what makes me, me. Like I said, you'd think that man would know that by now. But hell No. What you see, is a SNAP SHOT OF MY BRAIN, in the creating PROCESS. I keep telling myself, it gets easier, I'll get better at releasing the CONTROL FREAK. but I'd be lying to myself. And we cant' have that. I'll save that for another rant. LOL...I got lots of those. What you're seeing is how my jewelry gets done, from being simple rolls of copper wire to bended and oxidized pieces of raw blackened un-polished jewelry. This is the stage where magic really gets done, where I purposely pick up the highlights and do my finish work. (can't give you all my secrets now) What's next...I get fresh air from the dust and give my numb fingers a needed break. Even if I use safety glasses and dust respirator, I still find I need to take breaks to let my fingers get blood flowing and heat off my face from being so in-closed. After that, it's walk away till the mood hit's to pick up where I left off...and do the marketing aspect of running my art business. Here's where my hubby looses it, I see the glazed over look in his eyes, as I start my do you know honey??? and poor guy, he gotta love me to put up with all my ART STUFF!!!AND THAT'S JUST THE BEGINNING...

Years ago my father and mother went to Napa Valley to get away from all the hustle and bustle of every day life of running our family owned auto repair business. I remembered how happy my father was, when he come home and recounted his trip. I've never seen my father awe struck, I never heard his wonder and excitement in the little details of how amazingly beautiful the vineyards were. How the golden glow of the sunsetting touched my mother's face when he looked at her. Yep, those were magical moments that I'll cherish forever. Seeing my father so happy, those days are few and far between. But I'll keep those memories locked in my heart and revisit them every once and a while, Just to see my Daddy smile. I remember when I was a little girl, my Portuguese Great Grandmother would come to visit every time at about September, and stay till after the new year. The things I loved the most about Vovo, was how she made her special Portuguese Sweet Bread. This collection is in honor of my great grandmother Mary, and to all those very special loved ones who've gave us the true meaning of HOME.

Vovo's sweet bread, was the most mouth watering, melt in the mouth bread ever. I remember the one time, that her dough rose 3 times as large as it ever did, and we made more bread than we ever had. Vovo, said, "That's ok, we going feed the souls with this bread." What she meant was that we would give all the family for the souls that had passed. Which is the way of lot's of cultures of the world at this Autumn time of the year.

Take the time to remember your wholesome moments...they're precious treasures.

Hilo Hawaii's Children's Afterschool Mosaic Stepping Stone Project with Stone & Bone

Here's one of our many Hilo community children's after school program's art project.
We did these large mosaic stepping stones for the Boy's & Girls Club community garden about a few years ago. I'm sharing it now just to show how important it is for us to continue to encourage supporting our youth and the arts.

Each child had the opportunity to design their own personal stepping stone to place in the up and coming vegetable and herb garden.

As you can see the pride our youth takes in the creative process. Trust me when I say we we're covered in grout, glue and just the energy of happiness.

Programs like this very often don't last due to the governmental cuts that are now effecting so many needed communities. Please, if you have the opportunity to make a difference, like VOLUNTEERING...DONATING SUPPLIES, OR JUST WHATEVER IT TAKES. Please do your part. It really makes a difference in how they remember their childhood.

Have you noticed lately, or this may be you, that the world has been a really hungry place. Mothers going without food to make sure their children eat. Fathers trying to make ends meat, but no job. Yep. I feel you, as I feel those I see on the street.

But you know what, there's many more that go unheard, unseen, unnoticed. I know you see it too. Our friends that don't have a job, their children that don't smile so bright any more. The elderly, that seem a little frailer, but won't ask for much. I hear them too. the unspoken prayers that ask just to have a little extra food. Here's the deal, there's so much out there, I know you're having a hard time too. I am, many of us are. But you know what, we're all in this together, you, me and all of them. So why not we just do what we can, even if it's just ONE CAN, ONE PIECE OF FRUIT, SOME VEGGIES, WHAT EVER IT MAY BE. TO THEM, IT'S A MEAL, ONE THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE HAD IN A WHILE. LET'S FEED OUR WORLD, AND IF WE DO OUR WORLD Will FEED US TOO.

A local favorite, any time we get the craving we head down to OCEAN SUSHI DELI, in Hilo town, trust me one of the most amazing little mom and pops sushi, in Hawaii. Plus we're partial, it's from Hilo. Any who, here's featuring sushi ETYS STYLE, with one of our own local tita's shop (doublebrush.etsy.com) known for her bee's wax sushi candles, not edible, but onolicious all the same. But don't stop there, gotta browse all the other cuties, each one selected for their ultimate uniqueness and just amazing work. Aloha everyone, just me checking in again. WE just had HILO's very first ETSY MEET UP a few weeks ago, and it looks like everyone is very excited to seeing each other again. Getting started is always just a meet and greet, but hopefully at our next meet up PLANNED FOR JULY 27 at Wailoa Park, thanks to Tanya and Cheryl, who've worked so hard to get the word out they'll be more local etsians and more discussions on how to get HILO on the map.

Inspired by all the members of TEAM ETSY ARTIST OF COLOR, I chose to create something a little more challenging for myself. Little did I know that it really was a challenge. I chose to do a color combo collection, but surprisingly enough, there wasn't enough hues to match my AQUA, BROWN AND GREEN color scheme.

I made it work, but it did take time, longer than what I expected it would. I posted it out there, that all team members jump in and get their feet wet and try putting one of their own together and post on our team page. Lets see what we all come up with.

Tea POT Persona ...By Stone and Bone

Tea is a main staple to many cultures, and in Hawaii it's no different. Blessed with diversity for all the many immigrants that came to Hawaii to work in our plantations, one of the main influences they shared with each other was the blending of TEA. Many Chinese and Japanese people living in Hawaii will tell you that when their grandparents came over to work and start a new life in Hawaii, they brought tea with them many type of herbal blends of special family teas. Some were poorer than others, and those who were more well off had more sophisticated blends and utensils, but the common thread between all, was that their homeland lived in every cup they shared with their ohana and with their friends and neighbors.

What I remember about growing up in a plantation style ohana home, was that my tutu always made us tea and cream crackers with butter as a snack, or for breakfast. If we were lucky we would have hot coco instead, but never did a day go by that we didn't have that old time favorite. Even today talking to old frenz, we always reminisce about the tea and coco with soda cracker or cream crackers at gramma's house. As a kid growing up. we thought that was the greatest thing ever, but as we got older we began to understand that it was a means to a generation to survive in hard economic times. The joy of sharing tea has become part of our local cultural life style and fond memorizes of gramma's house, which is all that mattered any way.

So my Tea pot persona, is a tribute to all the many cultures that makes up our Hawaiian Ohana, here we are a melting pot of ALOHA where everyone can find their place and belong, and where sharing tea is part of who we are.
